A factory's night shift is not simply its daytime plan moved to different hours. Production activity, maintenance work and the availability of decision makers can change. Explaining those differences helps avoid assigning conflicting duties to the same security employee. The starting point should be the facility's actual operation, not alarming statistics without a reliable basis.
Identify who makes decisions at night
Who can the security team contact about an unexpected delivery, an unconfirmed visit or a reported technical fault? A telephone answered during the day may not be staffed overnight. The facility can name the responsible person and define the notification sequence if that person cannot be reached.
Guards should not be expected to take ownership of production decisions, repair technical faults or approve a commercial delivery. When a matter reaches the security desk, the limits of the duty should be clear. That also makes it easier to give consistent information to people waiting for a decision.
Assess workload beyond headcount
HSE's human-factors guidance notes that both excessive and very low workload can affect performance. This supports assessing a night assignment through more than the number of people present. It is United Kingdom guidance, not a substitute for employment and working-time requirements in Türkiye.
For a facility-specific discussion, examine tasks expected during the same period. If one employee must remain at an entrance while also checking records elsewhere, the instructions need a practical review. Breaks and duty handovers should be considered alongside applicable working arrangements and employer responsibilities.
Use handover to expose unfinished work
A shift record should communicate more than “no problems”. Where there is an unanswered notification, continuing authorised maintenance or a temporary arrangement announced by the facility, the incoming team should understand its status. Keep details relevant to the duty and do not pass unverified opinions on as established facts.
For an unresolved matter, record the most recent action, who was informed and who owns the next decision. This can prevent the same issue from being reconstructed at every shift change. It also gives management identifiable follow-up items for the service review.
Review the service through observable questions
- Is the overnight contact list current?
- Can simultaneous duties realistically be performed?
- Are unanswered reports transferred to the next shift?
- Is a facility owner assigned to recurring problems?
When discussing night-time coverage with Titan Savunma, share the shift schedule, general site activity and expected duties. The proposed working arrangements should be assessed against that information and the conditions of the site.
